Koh Tao caters for all budgets with the majority of accommodation on the established beaches of Sairee beach, Mae Haad and Chaloke Baan Kao. If you want something more remote head to Hin Wong or Lightouse Bay; and if you want to go back to your roots, Tanote Bay is best reached by boat. Au Leuk has three simple resorts with no luxury and Haad Sai Daeng beach has excellent beach diving and views / dive trips over Shark Island.
Booking ahead is advised if you want to guarantee getting the room you want with prices running from 150 – 200 THB for a View Cliff to 687 THB for a standard fan bungalow and 2,000 up for a decent A/C bungalow. Power is very expensive on Koh Tao and may resorts have to produce their own – please respect that and conserve as much water and power as possible; and don’t be surprised if the generator goes off at 11pm every night!...
